Tanya it might be helpful to direct your readers to a new solution for wandering children or adults with Autism. The solution uses cellular technology to locate the wanderer. Please go to www.emfinders.com. The device is going to launch in Texas within the next few months.

It's funny how Rhema's autism has forced me to get to know my neighbors and be forthcoming about her struggles. It was one of the best things I could do b/c now I know everyone around us is looking out for her.
Thanks for such an informative series.

Paulene - In Part 4, I provide a link for the handout cards that has several examples.

Mama Edge - I will be on the lookout for social stories about false friends. If I don't find any, I'll make one. Anyone else have any leads?

Barbara - thanks for stopping by and providing such a helpful link. I appreciate your suggestions!

Hi Tanya,
I came across your blog by way of Twitter - it referred to your post about Nigel's 8th grade graduation.

I just wanted to let you know about jobs4autism - it's a website/forum built by students from Notre Dame University and sponsored by NameStormers (the company's founders have a 19-year-old with autism.) Nigel probably isn't ready to find a job, yet, but the time will go by fast, so I thought I'd make you aware of the site's existence. In a nutshell, it's a new website with job success and job failure stories. Would you be willing to help promote this site by adding a link from your site?
I also wanted to suggest that you check into linking your blog to your twitter account to let others know when you've added a new post. I can do this with my blog, but it's hosted by Typepad and I'm not sure if the other blog hosts allow the connection. But I think it would help promote your wonderful blog and benefit more people.

Thanks and good luck!

As always, you have given great information. I am constantly feeling blessed to be able to receive help from those who've "been there and done that". I have often wondered how to handle Brenden's inappropriate behavior when we are around others. Sometimes it is so subtle...it doesn't scream special needs so he is judged as rude, arrogant or mean. His emotional deficits have caused more than once incident at the park in the presence of friends and parents. It's hard to find a way to say "Hey, he has autism" without feeling like??? Feeling wrong for saying something.

Really great info, as always. Have you ever run across any effective social stories about "false friends"? I've tried to write one, but I can't seem to combat Taz's steadfast insistence that there's no such thing as a nice bully.

This is a great series, Tanya.
I saw a video created for emergency personnel and the police that showed how the anxious behaviors of those on the spectrum could come across as acting suspicious. When asked if they "waived their right" most of the affected people on the video waved. I think it's important that authorities not think out kids are being cheeky when they don't understand what is happening.
